The Stuttgart Region is and always will be a special location for architecture: more than one in three architects working in Baden-Württemberg comes from the region.
“Star architects” such as Werner Sobek or Jörg Schlaich live here, and buildings such as the Kunstmuseum (art museum) or Mercedes-Benz Museum are designed by internationally recognised architects. Neue Messe Stuttgart, Stuttgart’s new trade fair areal designed by Wulf und Partner, is one of the biggest in Germany. The Forum 1 technology and competence centre at Sindelfingen/Böblingen airfield and the Porsche Museum are much talked about buildings by the architects Delugan Meissl Associated Architects in Vienna.
But the region has even more to offer: the Architecture Gallery at Weissenhof shows the development of contemporary architecture and urban planning between technology, art and the social sciences. It also awards the “Architekturförderpreis”, a prize that recognises the innovative power of young architects from Baden-Württemberg. These young architects come for example from the University of Stuttgart, Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences or Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design. Arno Lederer, Franz Pesch and Johann Jessen are just some of the professors with an excellent reputation who lecture at those institutions. Interested parties have access to an excellent infrastructure of associations and networks that operate at a regional, state and federal level.
