In terms of the percentage of people employed in the film industry in Baden-Württemberg, the Stuttgart Region is top of the list.
The region has important infrastructure facilities, such as the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in Ludwigsburg, where educational performance has been drawing attention to Baden-Württemberg from across Europe for many years now. Stuttgart’s International Festival of Animated Film (itfs) is one of the world’s largest and most important festivals for professional animated film and is organised by Film- und Medienfestival GmbH.
Also the companies located in our region are quite something. Mackevision Medien Design GmbH for example is one of the world's leading companies for Computer Generated Imagery (CGI), such as 3D visualisation, animation und visual effects. Mackevision's work for the fourth season of "Game of Thrones" has been rewarded with an Emmy for „Outstanding Special Visual Effects“. So one could say that the City of Bravoos as well as numerous other virtual worlds from GoT have been created in the Stuttgart Region.
Stuttgart Region Film Commission is a specialised advisory body within the Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation’s Creative Industries division with targeted offerings for all the needs of the film industry. It sees itself as a coordinator for moving images on the interface between culture, business, local government and the public. This is where you can find all of the relevant contact partners, references to associations and institutions as well as support and advice when searching for suitable filming locations, obtaining filming permits and working with the authorities.
The Film Commission also carries out projects to promote the film industry in the Stuttgart Region, e.g. the so-called “Monday seminars” or regular workshop talks that offer a look behind the scenes of the local film industry.
