Measured in terms of the percentage of people employed in the music industry in Baden-Württemberg, the Stuttgart Region is the uncontested leader with 35% (1,729 people working in the industry).
There are around 500 companies and freelancers located in the region and generating 40% of the sales for Baden-Württemberg. Whether classical music, jazz, hip-hop, rock, pop or electronica – the Stuttgart Region is home to countless orchestras, bands, DJs and companies that have garnered success far beyond the region’s borders.
And we’re not just talking about established acts like Die Fantastischen Vier or Die Massiven Töne – the names of young artists like Cro or Die Orsons are currently on everybody’s lips. Companies like 0711 Entertainment GmbH with the HipHop Open event as well as tour and concert organisers such as SKS Russ or Opus GmbH attract thousands of music fans to the region each year. Germany’s oldest recording studio, Bauer Studios, is also headquartered here.
In addition, the world’s largest independent record label for heavy metal is located in the quiet rural village of Donzdorf. It’s called Nuclear Blast GmbH and employs more than 70 people. The classical music scene is also very diverse and enjoys international acclaim, with four orchestras of high repute, the International Bach Academy, the Gächingen Chorale choir and the State Opera to name but a few examples.
