Design
What would the world be without design from the Stuttgart region? The region is a design region that offers all forms of design, from industrial and product design, fashion and textile design, packaging design, to communication and graphic design.
The majority of all designers in Baden-Württemberg live and work in and around Stuttgart. Here they find the clients who encourage them to design and develop innovative products and services. The awards they receive for this prove them right: IF Design Award, Red Dot, German Design Awards or Berliner Type are just a small selection of the trophies for outstanding design from the region.
The Design Center Baden-Württemberg is a state-wide institution available to all design offices in Baden-Württemberg and is not only the host of the International Design Award Baden-Württemberg, it also offers further training courses, workshops, events and the largest design library in the state. In addition to internationally active offices such as Phoenix and Roman Klis Design, the Stuttgart region is home to a large number of smaller, equally successful designers who work for domestic and foreign clients. For example Spek Design, who developed the first non-flammable and recyclable trade fair system made of cardboard.
The Stuttgart Region is also a region of materiality and material innovations. Materials of all kinds are designed, produced, researched, used, collected and recycled here. The high level of material competence is reflected in the dense number of renowned research institutes, as well as in university institutes, industrial companies and design agencies. And last but not least, one of the largest institutions in Europe that collects material samples and makes them available as an archive for e.g. architects and engineers, the material agency Raumprobe.
